Tasting through their 2013s and 2014s, I appreciated the purity and balance of these wines - nothing flashy or ostentatious, wines that seek to capture the essence of Pinot Noir; they deliver freshness, tension and fruit intensity rather than power. The considered use of whole cluster benefit many of the wines, lending complexity while not dominating their flavor profiles. This is one producer where the vintage played a key role and I found much more pleasure in their 2014s vis-à-vis 2013; there was more fruit and depth, more complexity even at this early stage. I did appreciate the older bottles that Jim generously opened, although if anything, they demonstrated how their wines have been fine-tuned over the years.” – Neal Martin Wine Advocate

15th Anniversary Cuvee Pinot Noir

94 Points Vinous: Brilliant red. Heady aromas of blackberry, cherry cola and incense, joined by a subtle vanilla element that emerges with air. Sappy and broad on entry, then more taut in the midpalate, offering deeply concentrated yet lively red and dark berry liqueur and floral pastille flavors that pick up a mineral flourish on the back half. At once rich and energetic, featuring an impressively long, gently tannic finish that shows excellent clarity. This wine was made from fruit sourced from six different vineyards, each lot fermented separately. Three lots were entirely destemmed, one was made with 20 percent whole clusters, one with 50 percent whole clusters and one entirely with whole clusters. It was raised in barrels that ranged from new to four years old. -Josh Raynolds

This wine is a combination of fruit from vineyards we hold dear. We have been fortunate over the years to assemble, in our minds, one of the great stables of vineyards from the best AVAs in Oregon. We were blessed to have the 2014 vintage and our 15th vintage at Patricia Green Cellars produce striking wines that are both beautiful in their youth but should stand the test of time with ease.

2014 Notorious Pinot Noir

94 Points Vinous: (100 percent new oak) Dark bright red. Heady red berry liqueur, potpourri and Asian spice aromas, along with suggestions of cola and incense. Sweet, concentrated and penetrating on the palate, offering powerful, spice-laced black raspberry and cherry-vanilla flavors and a subtle, refreshingly bitter touch of blood orange. Velvety tannins sneak in slowly and fold effortlessly into the energetic, alluringly sweet fruit on the strikingly long, seamless finish. -Josh Raynolds

93 Points Wine Advocate: The 2014 Pinot Noir Notorious is a barrel selection from new oak barrels, each with four to seven gallons of settling lees added when they are filled. This consists of two barrels from Freedom Hill, two barrels from Balcombe Vineyard, and one barrel from Durant and Olenik Vineyard. Naturally, the new oak comes through quite strongly at this early stage, although it feels in sync with the fruit, quite polished and pure. The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth, velvety texture, the acidity very well judged, very harmonious and yet it is obvious that it will need several years for its personality to be revealed. This will be a seductive and doubtless quite sensual Pinot Noir with great pedigree.

2014 Mysterious Pinot Noir

94 Points Vinous: (55 percent whole clusters and 33 percent new oak) Lurid ruby-red. A complex, highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh red and dark berries, Asian spices and candied flowers, and a mineral nuance adds vivacity. Sappy, sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering juicy black raspberry and floral pastille flavors joined by hints of star anise and vanilla that build slowly on the back half. Smooth and seamless in texture, showing superb finishing energy, fine-grained tannins and great persistence. -Josh Raynolds

92 Points Wine Advocate: The 2014 Pinot Noir Mysterious comes from the Dundee Hills; it includes 55% whole cluster fermentation and was matured in 33% new oak barrels. It has a very perfumed bouquet with blueberry and redcurrant aromas given lift by the new oak, a touch of sous-bois developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, quite sensual in the mouth thanks to its silkiness, very cohesive with cranberry, wild strawberry and a pinch of black pepper. It feels so lithe with a persistent finish that lasts 30 seconds. Like many to their 2014s, I love the purity here and it should give a decade's worth of pleasure, possibly more.

2014 Estate Vineyard, Etzel Block Pinot Noir

93 Points Vinous: (roughly 40 percent whole clusters and 27 percent new oak) Brilliant red. Vibrant raspberry, blood orange and candied rose aromas are complemented by suggestions of star anise and smoky minerals. Taut and nervy on the palate, offering sappy red berry and bitter cherry flavors that flesh out and turn sweeter with air. Finishes spicy and impressively long; silky, harmonious tannins build slowly and add shape and gentle grip. This vivacious Pinot sure doesn't act like it came from a warm vintage. -Josh Raynolds

92 Points Wine Advocate: The 2014 Pinot Noir Etzel Block is a similar composition to the 2013. Slightly darker in color, it has a composed bouquet with dark berries, rosemary and sous-bois scents that are beautifully focused. The oak is extremely well subsumed. The palate is medium-bodied with a steely entry, quite stern for a Pinot Noir because of the structure. Introspective maybe? However, there is very good complexity here and wonderful salinity towards the finish, beckoning you back for another sip. This is a top-class, well-priced Pinot Noir from Patricia Green and Jim Anderson. Just 265 cases produced.

2014 Durant Vineyard Bishop Block Pinot Noir

93 Points Vinous: (20 percent whole clusters and aged in one-third new oak) Dark red. Intense, smoke-accented aromas of blackberry, cherry pit, spicecake and rhubarb carry a powerful floral overtone. I really like this wine's marriage of power and vivacity. -Josh Raynolds

This wine is powerful, rich, intense yet surprisingly subtle on the whole. This has the Dundee Hill sweetness and texture to it, but it has a slow pull of wonderfully ripe and full tannins that move flavors towards the finish and give this generous wine length and amazing complexity at a young age. This is a beautiful and rare wine.

The initial block in the Olenik Vineyard that we received fruit from was is 100% Wadensvil  Clone for this particular Olenik Vineyard bottling. This site is an incredibly diverse site in terms of aspect, elevation and the amount of ancient-flood-deposited rock in any one section of the vineyard. This is one of the most elegant bottlings showing intense minerality, red fruit, and a lengthy mid-palate and finish.

Stains the palate with vibrant red fruit and floral pastille flavors; peppery spice and mineral notes provide lift. Silky, even tannins build slowly and evenly on a strikingly long, mineral-laced finish that leaves notes of raspberry and allspice behind. There's impressive energy here for a wine from a ripe vintage. -Josh Raynolds

93 Points Wine Advocate: The 2014 Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard Dijon 115 is the same composition as the 2013, but with one-third new oak. It has an appealing bouquet with dark berry fruit, bell pepper and touches of brine, something very marine-like coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with that bell pepper note coming through on the entry from the stem addition, lending a Loire-like character to this Pinot Noir. I appreciate the tension here, a rather uncompromising, yet compelling Pinot Noir with wonderful salinity towards the finish. Intellectual as well as sensorial, afford this 2-3 years in your cellar.
